Not many people like to go to the dentist because of the horror dental stories that have circulated, most of which are not true. This is a generalized perception of dental hygiene and preservation. It would be quite surprising to meet someone who is very willing to visit the dentist. In some cases, people just choose to ignore their debilitating toothaches just to avoid the dentist. It’s just unfortunate that such perception of oral care is preventing people from having a healthy set of teeth. Depending on the severity of the disease, there will be different levels of pain that will be felt during the process. It is for this reason that some people avoid going to the dentist, unless it’s really necessary.
Traditional dentistry is concerned with oral hygiene; this includes diagnosis, treatment and prevention of oral diseases. In most cases, these are done as part of semi-annual or annual medical examination. Simply put, people go to the dentist because it is necessary in order to address dental problems.
There is another branch of dentistry that is mainly focused on the aesthetics. It’s called cosmetic dentistry
. This means that if you are particularly looking for a desired treatment to make your teeth look better, then you would have to go visit a dentist who specializes in such practice. Of course, cosmetic dentistry is not just limited to making your mouth feel and look pretty, it also provides restorative services. Dental filling is one example of this type of service. While you can get dental filling from the traditional dentist, it’s in a cosmetic dentist where you can choose a filling made of porcelain which matches your natural teeth color.
Cosmetic dentistry provides several options for people who may not have serious dental problems, but are not very happy with the way their teeth look like. A bad teeth can affect your overall appearance, specifically in the way you smile. If you feel embarrassed about it, you will just not smile at all. It’s enough to make you lose confidence when interacting with people around you. If you are very much concerned about the appearance of your teeth, then you might need to consult a cosmetic dentist so that you can see the possible dental treatments available for the particular oral condition that you have.
